“What if you climb to the mountain top and touch the sky? Grab a cloud as it passes by? You might fall, you might fall, but then again you might fly” -song lyrics from Melissa Lawson’s hit “What If It All Goes Right” written by Shaye Smith, Tammy Hyler, and Tania Hancheroff.

I’m gonna ask you a very important question…How many times have you asked yourself what you would do if it all goes wrong? I know it ain’t zero.

When I pondered on the same question myself, I realized I used to wonder all the time;

-Playing a live acoustic show and only getting paid for the door? What if nobody shows up?

-Ask a girl to dance? What if she laughs at me? What if she berates me? What if she thinks I’m some creep?

-Apply for that high paying job? What if I don’t get a call back? What if somebody at the company knows me and won’t allow me to interview?

When we focus on what could go wrong, we are attracting the wrong into our lives. That’s how the manifesting works. Whatever we put our attention into comes to be.

The first time I came across this concept was through Joel Osteen. Now, Joel Osteen is the pastor at a mega church, and during a point in my life when I was still religious, I really enjoyed his sermons. Although my faith in God now is questionable at best, I still love some of those old lessons.

A sermon titled Activating Faith Instead of Fear, Osteen describes a young soldier who had already completed a few deployments overseas, and before departing for another deployment, he told his family he didn’t believe he would come back alive this time. And he didn’t. He died during that particular deployment.

He attracted his own death into his life. He activated his fear of dying instead of activating his faith that he would return. How many times have we all done something similar?

Come to think of it, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that we manifest all the good and bad things in our lives. It’s in the words we speak. It’s in the reality we choose to live within. It’s in our moods.

What if instead of approaching every situation and decision with “What if it all goes wrong” we approach every situation and decision with “What if it all goes right?”

Let’s look back at those examples I listed and change the formula.

-Playing a live acoustic show and only getting paid for the door? What if it sells out? What if a record label comes calling after seeing it? What if you make so much profit that you can take your family on a nice vacation?

-Ask a girl to dance? What if she says yes and we fall in love? What if this is how I meet the person I’m going to spend the rest of my life with? What if this is the mother of my children?

-Apply for that high paying job? What if they offer me the job in the room? What if the salary is higher than I expected? What if this becomes my career forever and I never have to seek work ever again?

Notice how many questions I asked in the “all goes wrong” scenarios compared to the “all goes right” scenarios? Vastly more questions. Yet, the AGW carries so much more weight than the AGR does.

I have a lot of dreams and goals to pursue and accomplish, and I make the choice every day how I am going to look at each pursuit. I don’t want to work a regular job for the rest of my life. I want my career to be motivating and inspiring others through music and through this blog. It would be very easy for me to think of the AGW. And if you’ve read every article (especially my depression series) you’ll know my faith has been tested a lot lately.

What if nobody cares about my writing? What if this is just a waste of time? What if I’m just not good enough at this to make a career? What if everybody thinks I’m an imposter?

Instead, I am looking at it like this;

What if this blog blows up? What if the book I write becomes a New York Times Best Seller? What if I inspire so many people that go on to make the world a better place? What if I get to travel the world spreading my message? What if this leads to making my family generationally wealthy?

Even just reading this back to myself and recording this podcast, I know which questions get me fired up.

Nobody is gonna save you, but you have everything you need inside of you to attract the wealth of happiness into your life. Google the Melissa Lawson song right now and crank it up. Stop asking yourself what if it all goes wrong, and ask yourself what if it all goes right?
