Well Happy New Year everybody!! 2026 is upon us and I am so excited for the opportunity another years always brings. In my 2025 recap, you will see that it was one of the best years of life!

I made a lot of changes and bettered myself throughout 2025 and I am excited to continue that journey. With that being said, you are probably wondering why the title of this article is saying not to make any New Year’s resolutions. Let me explain.

You should not make New Year’s resolutions, but you should be making resolutions all the time.

Why are you waiting for the flip of a calendar to make changes? Really ask yourself that. Why does a new year begin a new start for you?

I quit drinking on August 12, 2024. I made a resolution to quit drinking alcohol for good. I didn’t wait for the new year to be a better me. I made the resolution when I wanted to make a change.

I did some research and couldn’t find a concrete day most resolutions fail, but generally you can bet on breaking your promise to yourself within a few weeks. January 17th has been called “D-Day for New Year’s Resolutions“, while January 10th has been called Quitter’s Day.

To sum up, making January 1st the day you set a goal, is just setting yourself up to fail.

Here is a list of all the resolutions I made to begin a new year in my lifetime that I remember;

  • Lose weight
  • Get a gym membership and start going to the gym
  • Eat healthier
  • Quit smoking
  • Read more
  • Quit drinking as much as I do now

First thing I noticed is that I was set up to fail, because my goals were not specific enough. If I lost just one pound, signed up for a punch pass, ate a vegetable, didn’t smoke for a day, read a single page and didn’t consume alcohol for 24 hours, I accomplished my goal. Did I stay consistent afterwards?? Hell no.

The second thing I noticed is that all of those goals listed, I have accomplished now. I’m in decent shape. I finished 100 classes at Orange Theory Fitness. I eat better than I did before. I don’t smoke. I read at least two books per month, and I don’t drink alcohol. None of these starting points began on January 1.

In a previous article, I explained my fitness journey. When I decided I wanted to get in a good shape, my starting point was of course to say I wanted to lose weight. If I lost one pound, then BAM! I did it. But that wasn’t my goal. My actual goal was to get in the best shape of my life.

The next thing I had to do was to define EXACTLY what kind of shape I wanted to be in, to VISUALIZE what that would look like, HOW I was going to do it, and by WHEN I was going to finish it.

I decided I wanted to get a lean-muscle build. I found a picture of a man’s body that I wanted to replicate and pasted that image on my vision board (above). I did my research and found out what kind of workouts I needed to do and what kind of foods I should be consuming.

100 classes at Orange Theory Fitness later, I accomplished my goal.

This practice works for any goal I have ever wanted to set. You are witnessing me work on a goal right on by reading this article.

I set a goal for myself to write a self development book called “Nobody Is Gonna Save You.” I used the same practice as I did for getting into the best shape of my life.

I defined what the book was going to be. “Nobody Is Gonna Save You” is going to be a book about saving yourself, and the message is going to get through to the readers by telling stories of the lessons I have learned in life.

I visualized the book becoming a reality. I know what the cover looks like. I see myself with a stack of them during a book tour. I see myself on the Ted X stage performing a speech to promote my message and tell my story. I see the Instagram posts, the TIK TOK posts, the Facebook posts.

How am I writing this book? I started this blog. I am writing three articles per week. I am honing my craft, writing freely and with the unique style that I enjoy writing in. I am consuming more and more inspirational content to inspire and shape me into a better human and a better writer.

When is this book going to be published? I am going to publish this book before I turn 40. It needs to be more specific yes, but I haven’t gotten there yet. When the right time comes, I will know it.

I had this idea for a long time, and when I was ready to begin, I just did it. Go look back to the first article published. It was on November 23, 2025. Pretty close to the new year right? So why didn’t I just wait until the new year to start a new journey? I think you already have the answer to that one.

So whatever it is you want to accomplish, I am the proof that you can do it. But you do not need a starting point to be stated for you. You decide. And when you decide, just remember the steps;

  • Set the goal
  • Define the goal
  • Visualize yourself accomplishing the goal
  • Design your plan to finish the goal
  • Set the timeline for the goal
